The Judicial Branch of California has a very nice legal self help section on their web site (go to: http://www.courts.ca.gov/selfhelp.htm).  It provides information in a number of languages and is tailored to the neophyte covering topics such as small claims, divorce or separation, issues revolving around families & children, abuse, eviction & housing, traffic, seniors, and more.  A very good place to turn to when you run up against a need to deal with the court system.
