July Arroyo Seco Book Club Book

Book Jacket for: Beach musicThe Arroyo Seco Book Club will be reading Beach Music by Pat Conroy in July.  The book’s jacket copy says:
"Beach Music is about Jack McCall, an American living in Rome with his young daughter, trying to find peace after the recent trauma of his wife's suicide. But his solitude is disturbed by the appearance of his sister-in-law, who begs him to return home, and of two school friends asking for his help in tracking down another classmate who went underground as a Vietnam protester and never resurfaced. These requests launch Jack on a journey that encompasses the past and the present in both Europe and the American South, and that leads him to shocking - and ultimately liberating - truths."
Publisher’s Weekly said:
“…Conroy has not lost his touch. His storytelling powers have not failed; neither has his poetic skill with words, nor his vivid imagination. His long-awaited sixth book sings with the familiar elegiac Southern cadences, his prose is sweepingly lyrical (if sometimes melodramatic), unabashedly sentimental (if sometimes indigestibly schmaltzy).”
Sounds interesting.  Stop by the library for a copy and join us on July 23rd at 3:00 for a stimulating discussion about it.
