Arroyo Book Club’s September Pick…

The Arroyo Book Club will be visiting the Victorian era in England with our September book, Cranford by Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell.  Gaskell depicts the lives of middle to lower class women in a small village and uses humor to limn her stories.  Amazon describes the book with:
Cranford is a witty portrait of small town life in early-Victorian England. The story unfolds through the eyes of Mary Smith, a young woman who observes the comedic struggles of two middle aged sisters in their efforts to maintain a level of refined dignity amid poverty.
This book is available from Project Gutenberg so you may download a copy for yourself from their website (you’ll find this title here: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/394) or you can stop by the library for a paper copy.  Then make plans to join us for a discussion of the novel on September 28 at 3:00.
