Book Jacket for: The illustrated world encyclopedia of archaeologyAbydos (to answer this week’s question) is a cult center of Osiris, the god of the underworld.  It became an important national cemetery and place of pilgrimage.  It is located on the edge of the desert on the west bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt.

The question (and answer) were taken from p. 110 of The Illustrated World Encyclopedia of Archaeology edited by Bahn and published by Lorenz Books in 2007.
