What's a Dog For?

What’s a Dog For: The Surprising History, Science,Philosophy, and Politics of Man’s Best Friend by John Homans explores the dog from a number of different perspectives.  Some of the chapters are quite fascinating while others grow a bit maudlin. 

All in all I would recommend this book for browsing through… picking out the chapters that are interesting to you and skipping those that do not appeal to you specifically.
