Summer Reading Programs 2024


The Summer Reading Challenge begins on June 10 and runs through August 10. Swing by the library or sign up via Beanstack and make plans to join us for any or all of the exciting adult programs we have on tap.

Highland Park Walks
Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m.
Join us for a community walk as we explore our local neighborhood. It’s summer so put your sun block on, bring some water, and be prepared to sweat!

Creative Writing - The Art of Storytelling - Learning Circle
Tuesdays, June 18 – July 23 at 6 p.m.
Explore aspects of creative writing & develop your storytelling skills in our Learning Circle. We will collectively explore material from the Storytelling portion of the Khan Academy’s Pixar in a Box course, tackling a new facet each week.

Arroyo Book Club

Chamber Hop from Echo Park: The Brendan Eder Ensemble
Saturday, June 29 at 3 p.m.
Join us for a musical experience! LA native composer and producer Brendan Eder creates a kaleidoscopic musical blend of classical, experimental rock, jazz, electronic, and hip hop. Eder's whimsical, funky, and accessible compositions have the ability to engage anyone's imagination. The music sounds like Burt Bacharach, Miles, James Brown, Martin Denny, and Debussy blended into fresh compositions for winds, electric bass, and drum set.

Meditative Coloring
Saturday, July 6 at 3 p.m.
Swing by for an afternoon of old school coloring. Delight in putting your worries aside to make your chosen image as beautiful as possible. Meant for adults but all colorists are welcome.

Bad Art: A Contest
Saturday, July 13 at 3 p.m.
Contest! Prizes Awarded! Goal: make the ugliest art possible with provided materials. Judging across 3 groups, Under 12s, Teens, Adults.  Get the whole family involved.

Arroyo Book Club
Saturday, July 27 at 3 p.m.
The Arroyo Book Club meets to discuss a book that about the intersection of sport & the development of Los Angeles, specifically City of Dreams by Jerald E. Podair. Come and share your thoughts.
