S. L. Huang brings us a story straight out of fairy tale in Burning Roses. Here we meet Rosa (aka Little Red Riding Hood) middle aged now, hiding out in China, mourning her past mistakes, and reflecting on her life. Here she spends time with Hou Yi (the archer) also atoning for the mistakes of the past. Together they set out to find the source of a plague of deadly sun birds and find absolution along the way.
The book is short & lyrical, a fascinating blend of European & Chinese folklore, and worth picking up. Give it a try.
