The January Arroyo Book Club pick is The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. The book provides the following description:
“The nameless narrator of the novel describes growing up in a black community in the South, attending a Negro college from which he is expelled, moving to New York and becoming the chief spokesman of the Harlem branch of "the Brotherhood", and retreating amid violence and confusion to the basement lair of the Invisible Man he imagines himself to be. The book is a passionate and witty tour de force of style, strongly influenced by T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land, Joyce, and Dostoevsky.”
We will have copies available for checkout on the shelf by the window where they are normally placed (if you can't find them just ask). Unfortunately all the e-copies are currently checked out and there’s a wait list, so you’ll have to go with the paper book for this meeting.
This mid-century classic is quite long but fortunately we have extra time. Our January meeting will be on the 28th at 3:00. It will be a hybrid meeting so you may attend in person or via Zoom. If you elect to join us virtually be sure to email us at ayosco@lapl.org so we can add you to the link list.
