This time we asked what the volume of water in the Great Lakes is. The Great Lakes hold roughly 5,500 cubic miles (23,000 cubic km.) of water, which is about one-quarter of all the freshwater held in the world’s lakes. Together they cover 94,950 square miles (246,000 sq. km.) and are the largest inland bodies of water in the world.
