Battle Ground

Battle Ground by Jim Butcher picks up literally the moment that his previous book, Peace Talks (link to previous review), leaves off, the bulk of it taking place over the course of one tumultuous, terrifying evening.  The Peace Talks failed and battle begins with all of the supernatural community ranged against a Titan (yes a primordial god) and her “outsider” allies. Harry is caught in the middle of everything and humanity as a whole (or at least the city of Chicago) is drawn into the mess.  Harry faces some pretty devastating losses during this book as we wade ever deeper into quite horrific war.

A good read with interesting series plot points.  Interestingly, virtually all of the major players with roles in the war were female. I don’t know if the author is trying to make any kind of point with this but it was definitely noticeable.  This is a book that will not work as a standalone.  So make sure to pick up the earlier titles in the series and work your way up to it.  You can start with Storm Front.
